We made it possible for visitors to Foxton Locks, Leicestershire, to once again be able to see the boats using the old Inclined Plane, albeit virtually, through the development of an Augmented Reality (AR) app.
The Foxton Inclined Plane Trust sought to restore a beloved Victorian-era boat lift, but were faced with a nigh-impossible £12m estimated cost. We worked closely with the Trust to get around this, by sponsoring and creating an innovative digital restoration to the whole Boilerhouse Museum to bring the local landmark back to life.
We created interactive museum exhibits including a feature where visitors can stoke the boiler to create the right conditions for the Inclined Plane to work, an immersive theatre and the ‘Foxton Discovery’ Augmented Reality (AR) app, which allows visitors to use their smartphones or tablets to view the Inclined Plane working in real time, in the exact positions that boats would have made the actual journeys.
This new Museum experience has engaged, educated and inspired visitors of all ages and integrated nicely with the existing Foxton Locks Trail.
